Where to stay in Limassol
The old town around the castle and the Saripolou square nightlife block is the most atmospheric base; the tourist strip east of the marina has the big seafront hotels; Platres and the Troodos foothill villages, 40 minutes up the hill, are the summer-heat escape. Kourion, Kolossi castle and the Omodos wine villages are all easy half days.
Getting there and around
Limassol sits between both airports: about 45 minutes from Paphos, 50 from Larnaca, with direct shuttle buses from each. The seafront EMEL buses run the length of the city; the 30 covers the tourist strip. For Kourion and the wine villages you want a car or a tour.

Common questions about Limassol
What is Limassol known for?
The island's biggest port city: a 15 km seafront promenade, the medieval castle where Richard the Lionheart married, the ancient theatre of Kourion just west, carnival in spring and the wine festival in late summer.
Is Limassol worth visiting?
Yes, especially if you like a real working city with your beach: the best food scene on the island, the old town, and Troodos day trips. Pure beach-resort holidays are better served in the Famagusta region.
What can you do in Limassol in one day?
Morning at Kourion's clifftop theatre, lunch in the old town by the castle, the promenade and marina in the afternoon, dinner around Saripolou square. That is the city's greatest hits in a day.
