Things to Do in Limassol
Limassol is the island's working city: the biggest port, the business towers, the long seafront promenade that everyone uses at sunset. It does not perform for tourists, which is exactly why it is worth your time.
The real range shows outside the center. Fifteen minutes west is Kourion, the most dramatic ancient site in Cyprus, a Greco-Roman theatre hanging over the sea. Thirty minutes north are the Krasochoria, the wine villages, where family wineries pour Commandaria, the oldest named wine still made anywhere.

- The Kourion theatre is at its best late afternoon, when the heat drops and the light comes across the water.
- Lady's Mile beach is long, shallow and backed by nothing: locals drive onto it with chairs and a cool box. Governor's Beach has white cliffs and dark sand.
- The old town around the castle is the good wandering: Genethliou Mitella street, the Cyprus Wine Museum, small galleries.
- For the wine villages, Omodos gets the buses; Vouni, Koilani and Lofou get the quiet. Most wineries pour tastings free or nearly free.

What is Limassol known for?
The ancient city of Kourion, the medieval castle linked to Richard the Lionheart, a 15 km seafront, the island's biggest carnival and wine festival, and the Commandaria wine region in the hills above.
Is Limassol expensive?
It is the priciest city in Cyprus for eating out near the marina and old town. Move two streets back from the sea and prices normalize. Beaches, as everywhere in Cyprus, are free.
Which day trips work from Limassol?
Kourion and Kolossi castle (15 min), the Krasochoria wine villages (30 min), Troodos mountains (50 min), and Aphrodite's Rock (25 min). Limassol is the most central base on the south coast.
