Things to Do in Nicosia
Nicosia is the capital nobody plans for and everybody remembers. It is the last divided capital in the world: you can walk down Ledra Street, show a passport, and cross the UN buffer zone on foot. The old city inside the 16th-century Venetian walls is dense with cafes, workshops, churches and mosques.
It is also the island's best museum city by far, starting with the Cyprus Museum, where ten thousand years of the island's archaeology sit in one manageable building. No beach, no resort strip: this is the Cyprus that works, eats and argues in its own language.

Local tips
- Cross the Ledra Street checkpoint at least once: passport needed, takes minutes. Büyük Han, a restored 1572 caravanserai, is ten minutes on the other side.
- The Cyprus Museum beats every other museum on the island. Two hours is enough, mornings are quiet.
- Faneromeni square is where the city actually hangs out, not the tourist strips near the crossing.
- Summer afternoons are brutal here, five degrees hotter than the coast. Do the old city in the morning, museums after lunch.

Yes. It is 45 minutes from Larnaca and has what the coast does not: the divided old city, the Cyprus Museum, real urban food and history you walk through rather than pay to enter.
Can you cross to North Nicosia?
Yes, on foot at the Ledra Street checkpoint with a passport or EU ID. Crossings are routine; check current requirements before you go.
